These 4 Habits Are Holding You Back

There is an old saying that we are our own worst enemy. In many ways that is the truth. We procrastinate, we overthink things, we really are the cause of most of our own problems. So here is a list of some things that you are probably doing to hurt yourself.

Think about these things and see if you need to make an adjustment to yourself so that you can get on the right path to success.

Stop trying to place blame

This is one of the biggest issues I see time and time again. Anytime something doesn’t go according to plan, the first thing people want to do is to find someone to blame. Now, I agree that if someone keeps making mistakes, then they should be moved to a position where they can no longer make those mistakes. And you need to know who is making those mistakes to make that change. However, when a mistake has been made, the first priority should always be fixing the mistake, not placing blame. Your first though should always be “How do I fix this?”, not “Whose fault was it?”.

These Habits are Holding You BackDon’t let fear hold you back

A wise man once said that it is better to regret something that you have done, then to regret something that you haven’t done. It seems like an odd statement, but there is some truth in it. You see, many of us would rather “play it safe” then to take that big chance. We know that the big chance might not work out, and we are scared of regretting the choice to take the risk. What we don’t realize is that there is just as big of a chance that we will regret not taking the chance. So you mine as well take the risk.

Don’t worry about what they think

This is a tough one, and I will admit that I had it wrong for a while. I used to think that as long as I did my job good, it didn’t matter what anyone thought of me. This isn’t true. People like to work with people they like. If they don’t like you, they will choose someone less qualified, that they do like, for the job. So you have to be likable. However, you also need to realize that other people don’t think about you as much as you think that they do. Put your ego aside, and don’t take things personally. No one did anything to make you mad. They most likely didn’t even think of you when they made the decision.

Don’t Doubt Yourself

When I was much younger, I worked for a guy that would always try to trip me up. He would always throw new problems at me, and then tell me, in front of everyone, that he was worried about if I could do it. I would always smile and say “Don’t worry, I can get it done.” Then, as soon as he would walk away, I would start looking things up to figure out how to do it. You see, that is one of the benefits of today’s society. You really do have the answers to almost any question. They are right there on your phone. If you don’t know something, look it up. Chances are, someone, somewhere, has had they same problem, and they wrote a blog post about it, or talked about it in a forum, or something.
